The National Beef Cook-Off® (NBCO) a popular recipe contest, funded by the Beef Checkoff, is designed to meet the tastes and techniques of the everyday home cook. The NBCO is one of the top three recipe/cooking contests in the country. The contest is led by the American National CattleWomen, Inc., a contractor to the Beef Checkoff Program. This year’s contest theme was “Making the Most of MyPlate” to encourage nutritious and convenient recipe entries that include not only beef, but a variety of food groups. The 2013 National Beef Cook-Off is sponsored by the Beef Checkoff Program, California Avocado Commission and United States Potato Board. These recipe categories were designed to encourage recipe entries that help meet consumer demand for taste, nutrition and convenience:
- Belt Tightening Beef Recipes – Nutritious and affordable beef recipes that are great values to prepare.
- Semi-Homemade Beef Recipes – Recipes that combine beef and fresh ingredients with pre-packaged food products.
- Real-Worldly, Real Simple Beef & Potato Recipes – Easy-to-make lean beef and fresh potato centered recipes that feature international flavors and maintain a nutritious profile
- Craveable Fresh Beef & Fresh Avocado Recipes – Easy, fresh beef and fresh avocado recipes that highlight California cuisine and cooking trends.
Seating for 150 is first-first come, first-served and is free with General Admission. The $25,000 grand prize contest winner will be announced at 12:40 PM on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Food Lion Cooking Stage.
